The Washington Fellowship is the flagship program of President Obama’s Young
African Leaders Initiative. President Obama launched YALI in 2010 to support
young African leaders as they spur growth and prosperity, strengthen
democratic governance, and enhance peace and security across Africa. The
Washington Fellowship, which begins in 2014, will bring 500 young leaders to
the United States each year for academic coursework and leadership training
and will create unique opportunities in Africa for Fellows to put new skills to

1. About the Prize
The Commonwealth Short Story Prize is an annual award for unpublished short
fiction administered and funded by the Commonwealth Foundation.
The Commonwealth Short Story Prize is part of Commonwealth Writers the
cultural initiative from the Commonwealth Foundation. Commonwealth Writers
develops the craft of individual writers and builds communities of emerging
voices which can influence the decision-making processes affecting their lives.
The Prize aims to identify talented writers who will go on to inspire their local
communities.
The prize covers the Commonwealth regions of 1. Africa, 2. Asia, 3. Canada and
Europe, 4. Caribbean and 5. Pacific. (See Section 4 for countries in each
region).
There will be five winners, one from each region. One regional winner will be
selected as the overall winner. The overall winner of the Commonwealth Short
Story Prize will receive £5,000 and the remaining four regional winners £2,500.
If the winning short story is a translation into English, the translator will receive

The AFRINOLLY SHORT-FILM COMPETITION is a Unique, Innovative

exhibit exceptional narrative skills using short movies and

This contest is organised in the framework of the ARDYIS project, which aims to raise youth awareness and improve their capacity on agricultural and rural development issues in ACP countries using Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).

The aims of this blog competition are to:

• Put into limelight issues, successes and challenges faced by youth engaged in: agriculture in urban and rural areas;
• Encourage the production of information and the use of new information and communication technologies by young farmers’ groups and organisations interested in the “youth in agriculture” question;
• Promote the sharing of information on the issues of agriculture and rural development in African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries.

 Who can participate?

The YoBloCo Awards are open in two categories:

a. Individual category

This category is open to students in agricultural training courses, young farmers, journalists or other young people interested in ICT or agriculture.

b. Institutional category

This category is open to local or national

• young farmers’ organisations;
• young members of farmers’ organisations;
• young members of any organisation interested in agriculture, rural development and ICT.

For this competition, an organisation is understood as any type of non-profit or for-profit association, cooperative, forum, network or related grouping, excluding government institutions. Organisations that receive funding from governments but are not formal governmental institutions can be eligible if they fulfil all criteria.
