UBA university educational grant for students: Over N1million

The Corporate Social Responsibility,(CSR), arm of the United Bank for Africa,(UBA) has announced the commencement of the 2013 edition of the National Essay Competition amongst secondary school students in Nigeria.
Winners will get educational grants to study in any African university of their choice.
According to the announcement by the bank, the winner will get N1million. The first runners-up will go away with N750,000 while the second runners-up takes N50,000 all in the local currency equivalent towards university tuition/fees and a laptop. Consolation prizes will be given to the finalists.

1. About the Prize
The Commonwealth Short Story Prize is an annual award for unpublished short
fiction administered and funded by the Commonwealth Foundation.
The Commonwealth Short Story Prize is part of Commonwealth Writers the
cultural initiative from the Commonwealth Foundation. Commonwealth Writers
develops the craft of individual writers and builds communities of emerging
voices which can influence the decision-making processes affecting their lives.
The Prize aims to identify talented writers who will go on to inspire their local
communities.
The prize covers the Commonwealth regions of 1. Africa, 2. Asia, 3. Canada and
Europe, 4. Caribbean and 5. Pacific. (See Section 4 for countries in each
region).
There will be five winners, one from each region. One regional winner will be
selected as the overall winner. The overall winner of the Commonwealth Short
Story Prize will receive £5,000 and the remaining four regional winners £2,500.
If the winning short story is a translation into English, the translator will receive
additional prize money: £2,000 for the overall winning story and £1,000 for a
regional winning story.
The final selection will be judged by an international judging panel; experienced
readers will assist the named judges in selecting the long lists

The AFRINOLLY SHORT-FILM COMPETITION is a Unique, Innovative
and Youth-focused Competition, with singular concentration on the
next generation of African film makers. This Competition is designed
to expand the conversations on issues about the African continent by
Africans, motivate and reward young and emerging filmmakers who
exhibit exceptional narrative skills using short movies and
documentary as a medium.
This competition is conceived entirely as an online challenge open to
Africans from across the world creating or have created short films or/
and documentary films of not more than 15 minutes. Participants are
expected to upload their films to a dedicated Competition Website and
the finalists would be decided by a panel of jury and public voting.
Our core objective is to empower African youths to tell their own
stories from their own perspective and eliminate financial barriers to
movies production. We look forward to ultimately creating a new
generation of content providers in the Africa movie industry and
facilitating business model based on sub-15 minutes contents.

partnership with respected brands and organizations like MTN Nigeria,
iRepresent International Documentary Film Festival and Goethe

Winners Announced: June 2014The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation ACP-EU (CTA), in collaboration with FARA, Yam-Pukri, CAFAN, AYF, ANAFE, SPC/PAFPNET ande-Agriculture is pleased to launch the 2nd Edition of the Youth in Agriculture Blog Competition (YoBloCo Awards).
This contest is organised in the framework of the ARDYIS project, which aims to raise youth awareness and improve their capacity on agricultural and rural development issues in ACP countries using Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).
The aims of this blog competition are to:
- Put into limelight issues, successes and challenges faced by youth engaged in: agriculture in urban and rural areas;
- Encourage the production of information and the use of new information and communication technologies by young farmers’ groups and organisations interested in the “youth in agriculture” question;
- Promote the sharing of information on the issues of agriculture and rural development in African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries.
Who can participate?
The YoBloCo Awards are open in two categories:
a. Individual category
This category is open to students in agricultural training courses, young farmers, journalists or other young people interested in ICT or agriculture.
b. Institutional category
This category is open to local or national
- young farmers’ organisations;
- young members of farmers’ organisations;
- young members of any organisation interested in agriculture, rural development and ICT.
For this competition, an organisation is understood as any type of non-profit or for-profit association, cooperative, forum, network or related grouping, excluding government institutions. Organisations that receive funding from governments but are not formal governmental institutions can be eligible if they fulfil all criteria.
